Grief Is...
Sep 11, 2023
- A natural and normal reaction to loss.
- While it is normal and natural, it is not always easy.
- We grieve because we love.
- Our response to any loss. Loss can be caused by many different events, such as the death of a loved one, the end of a relationship, the loss of a job, or a serious illness.
- Loss is all around us.
- Loss connects us to others who walk a similar path.
- Loss can become a wilderness of uncertainty and loss of direction.
- A total life experience that impacts emotions, thoughts, spirituality, relationships and body.
- Emotions–sad, sorrow, anger, hurt, and so many more
- Thoughts–anxious, confusion, overwhelm, and lethargy.
- Spirituality–questions, doubt, uncertainty, hopelessness, and emptiness.
- Relationships–loneliness, support, lack of support, presence, or absence.
- Body–weariness, fatigue, restlessness, appetite, rest, and energy.
- Different for every person.
- Not a linear process that follows a set of stages or steps.
- Grief is more like a journey that has ups and downs, twists and turns. Grief can last for weeks, months, or years.
- Grief does not have a fixed endpoint or a clear sign of completion. Grief is not something that you can get over or move on from.
- Grief is something that you can learn to live with and adapt to.
- An opportunity for growth and change.
- Can teach you valuable lessons about yourself, others, and life.
- Can make you more compassionate, resilient, and grateful.
